WIDU.africa in Senegal is a project co-financed by the European Union and the Gates Foundation, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Launched in Senegal in 2026, the WIDU.africa programme is now continuing to implement its core approach locally: combining targeted financial support with individualized coaching to support enterprise growth, job creation and labour market inclusion. Particular emphasis is placed on women- and youth-led businesses, health- and nutrition-relevant sectors, and green and low-carbon activities, in line with the priorities of its partners.

Together with WIDU, Senegalese living in one of the 27 member states of the European Union, in Switzerland or in Norway, can support their friends or family in their entrepreneurial activities through an innovative and digital approach. In concrete terms, each entrepreneur in Senegal sponsored by a relative or friend living in one of the 27 member states of the EU, in Switzerland or in Norway, can obtain a grant from WIDU of up to EUR 3,000 for their first application and up to EUR 5,000 for the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Additionally, to financial support, entrepreneurs benefit from 3 personalized coaching sessions.
