WIDU.africa, a project powered by Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is a dynamic initiative. Together with the African diaspora in Europe, WIDU employs an innovative approach combining funding and personalized coaching to empower both starting and established small enterprises in Africa. This innovative approach not only fortifies businesses but also leads to the creation of fresh employment opportunities, aligning perfectly with our shared goals for sustainable economic growth.

WIDU’s concept was developed during a design thinking workshop in 2019. In order for this concept to meet the concrete needs of the diaspora, the workshop included participants from nine African countries, GIZ staff, FinTech, digitalization experts, and user experience designers.

The essence of WIDU lies in the commissioning of dreams, turning ideas into impactful enterprises with the diaspora contribution. WIDU gives a financial support allowing the entrepreneur to express their potential. Here, every contribution from the diaspora community plays a pivotal role in this transformative journey.
