The WIDU Cameroon team participated in the First edition of the Forum for the Development of Bafoussam (FODEBAF) on March 7, 2023. During this event, the team presented the WIDU program's activities, demonstrating how the online platform connects African diaspora resources with local entrepreneurs to foster economic growth and business development.
The workshop highlighted practical ways in which WIDU enables financial inclusion for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), offering digital solutions that simplify access to investment and mentorship. Attendees learned how the platform can help entrepreneurs scale their businesses, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable local development.

Impact of WIDU in Bafoussam
Since 2020, WIDU has supported over 45 micro and small enterprises in Bafoussam, resulting in the creation of new jobs and increased economic activity in the city. By bridging the gap between diaspora investors and local businesses, WIDU has provided critical funding, knowledge, and resources to entrepreneurs who previously struggled to access capital.
The success of these enterprises demonstrates the transformative power of diaspora-led investment, showing how international support can drive inclusive economic growth in Cameroonian cities. WIDU’s approach empowers local business owners, strengthens community development, and fosters innovation within the region.
The Role of the African Diaspora in Economic Development
A key focus of the presentation was the contribution of the African diaspora in Europe. Through financial support, mentorship, and knowledge sharing, diaspora communities have played a vital role in helping entrepreneurs in Bafoussam overcome financial and operational challenges.
By leveraging diaspora resources via the WIDU digital platform, local businesses gain access to international networks, capital, and expertise, enabling them to expand operations and generate long-term economic impact.
FODEBAF: A Platform for Collaboration and Growth
The FODEBAF event provided an opportunity for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among local entrepreneurs, development organizations, and stakeholders. WIDU Cameroon’s participation emphasized the importance of digital platforms in linking diaspora investments to on-the-ground business initiatives.
Through these initiatives, WIDU continues to promote entrepreneurship, job creation, and sustainable development in Bafoussam and other Cameroonian areas. The project remains committed to scaling its impact, supporting more micro and small enterprises, and fostering an inclusive and prosperous economic environment in Cameroon.
