WIDU enhances its support offers to African entrepreneurs! How does it work?

Entrepreneurs who apply to WIDU for the first time can now benefit from up to €3,000 in grant funding, available in all six participating countries. This enhanced funding enables greater investment in infrastructure, growth, and long-term impact.

The grant approach remains the same as initially and allows the participation of a diaspora donor to support entrepreneurs locally. The business investment plan is divived into three parts:

  • 25% from the entrepreneur,

  • 25% from their diaspora donor,

  • 50% from the WIDU grant.

Additionnally, entrepreneurs can apply up to three times. And for 2nd and 3rd rounds they can benefit of an enhanced Grant up to 5,000 EUR. More information here: Support A Small Business With the Original WIDU Grant

A model that includes new features in the process

In addition to the increase of the grant received, WIDU is increased the process of application for entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs will receive 90% of the Grant amount during the process and the 10% remaining at the closure of the process. These 10% will enable entrepreneurs to proceed with administrative costs.

Improved Coaching Flow to Maximize Success

Another feature that comes alongside this new grant process involves the timing of coaching support. Entrepreneurs will now benefit from coaching earlier in the process, starting before the submission of the investment plan. This shift ensures that entrepreneurs are better prepared, allowing them to develop more effective and scalable business plans.

With this upgraded financial structure, WIDU reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the full entrepreneurial journey — from seed funding to sustainable growth — in partnership with African diaspora communities. Together, we’re building a stronger foundation for inclusive, long-term economic development across in the six African countries part of WIDU.
