Ampem Darkowa Early Childhood

Backs off For Single Mothers in Ghana

International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8, 2023 celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. WIDU presents these achievements as part of #IWD2023. This success story is about the „Ampem Darkowa Early Childhood“ in Ghana.

Georgina Nkrumah states about her business: „I am an entrepreneur that believes in Changing lives through quality education. Making sure kids have the best equality education.“  With her daycare "Ampem Darkowaa Early Childhood", Georgina wants to offer care especially for children of single and working mothers from her neighbourhood. Through her participation in WIDU.africa, she was able to expand her daycare by building one additional room. This was necessary because she needed more space especially during Corona.

“My school started very small and I had only 10 students at the start. But the WIDU Grant has raised the standard and the expansion of classroom and so the enrollment has gone up to 60 students currently. I had only a teacher, but now I have employed 4 more staff in addition. I was earning less than 500 GHs but now I earn double that amount and I am able to pay my new employees as well.”
