We are pleased to announce that the WIDU platform is once again open for second and third entrepreneurs’ applications under an evolved Original WIDU Grant model. If you’ve already completed your project on the platform and are ready to take your growing business to the next level, you can now log in to your profile here and apply for additional support with the enhanced model.

Supporting WIDU Proven Entrepreneurs in Africa

In May 2025, the Original WIDU Grant enters a new phase. As part of our mission to drive sustainable entrepreneurship across Africa, WIDU.africa is announcing the reopening of the platform for entrepreneurs already supported in the past (including Local Calls) — now with a stronger and more sustainable financing model.

This enhanced version of the Original WIDU Grant is exclusively available to entrepreneurs who have already received WIDU support in the past. With this evolution, WIDU aims to offer more substantial backing for businesses that have proven their potential and are ready to scale.

Up to €5,000 in Grant Funding for Returning Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs who apply for additional support can now benefit from up to €5,000 in grant funding, available in all six participating countries. This enhanced funding enables greater investment in facilities, growth, and long-term impact.

This new approach also introduces equal contributions from all three parties involved:

  • One-third from the entrepreneur,
  • One-third from their diaspora supporter,
  • One-third from the WIDU grant.

That way, it reinforces shared responsibility and places equal value on the roles of the entrepreneur, the diaspora donor, and the support funding provided by WIDU.

Reinforcing Diaspora Engagement and Impact

This evolution of the Original WIDU Grant is not just about funding — it’s about deepening the impact of the diaspora. By requiring an equal contribution from diaspora donors, WIDU highlights the central role they play in building local businesses and economies.

This model reinforces the responsibility of the diaspora and supports its investment in the economic development of local communities. This enhanced approach reflects WIDU’s belief that diaspora funding is more than remittances but support their engagement towards a more sustainable entrepreneurship in Africa.

Improved Coaching Flow to Maximize Success

Another feature that comes alongside this new grant process involves the timing of coaching support. Entrepreneurs will now benefit from coaching earlier in the process, before WIDU’s decision on their project application. This shift ensures that entrepreneurs are better prepared, allowing them to develop more effective and scalable business plans.

With this upgraded funding scheme, WIDU reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the entrepreneurial journey in partnership with African diaspora communities. Together, we’re paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable development across the six African countries.
