With a Master's degree in Design and Image, Hela Majdoud has always been driven by the desire to contribute to the promotion of the Tunisian heritage through her creativity. This ambition led to the creation of Gloristory, a publishing house based in the Bizerte region -in the North of Tunisia- specialized in socially responsible board games. Hela's first project, ‘Heroes of Tunisia’, aims to help people discover Tunisia's historical heritage in a fun and inclusive way by featuring key figures from the country's history. The card game can also be read in Braille by visually impaired or blind people, making board games more inclusive.

A well-timed financial support from WIDU.africa

Thanks to the support of WIDU.africa and the grant received as part of #WomenCall in 2023, Gloristory has accelerated its development by integrating technological innovations into its educational game. ‘Heroes of Tunisia’ now offers a hybrid experience combining a physical card game and an augmented reality mobile application. This immersive approach invites players to discover the emblematic figures of Tunisian history by interacting with them in 3D.

“The WIDU investment has enabled us to take a decisive step forward by strengthening our team and integrating augmented reality into our concept,” explains Hela. “The company was able to recruit a freelance developer specialising in gaming to model the historical figures in 3D and develop the first version of the application. In addition, the acquisition of new IT equipment and a 3D printer has considerably improved the production and innovation process.”

While these advances have been decisive, they have also presented challenges, particularly in terms of time management and human resources. “The recruitment process and the development of the application took longer than expected, but this enabled us to refine our approach and guarantee a quality product,” emphasises Hela.

A bridge between History and modernity

Today, Gloristory aims to broaden its impact by making its games accessible to Tunisian families, the diaspora and international history buffs. "We plan to market our products in physical outlets such as concept stores, bookshops, historic sites, museums, hotels and guest houses, as gift items and souvenirs representative of Tunisia. We also plan to offer our products online, on our website."

Thanks to its originality and uniqueness, ‘Héros de Tunisie’ stands out as a real bridge between tradition and modernity, contributing to the enhancement of Tunisia's cultural heritage and inviting generations from the youngest to the oldest to discover Tunisia's cultural and historical heritage.
