πŸ“ˆ WIDU Kenya in Numbers – Impact at a Glance

This quarter has been one of growth, resilience, and innovation. WIDU Kenya has continued to empower local entrepreneurs by providing financial support, personalized coaching, and access to networks that help small businesses grow stronger and more sustainable. At the same time, our engagement with diaspora communities across Europe has reached a historic milestone, positioning WIDU as a unique platform that channels remittances into productive investments that transform lives and communities. To date:

  • Grants disbursed 2.14 M Euros
  • Private investment by diaspora donors and entrepreneurs 2 M Euros
  • Coaching sessions conducted 3,400, with entrepreneurs rating a 97% satisfaction rate.
  • Approved 1,465 projects, resulting in an average of 3,171 new and sustained jobs per project, with 54% of those opportunities benefiting women. 

 

πŸ“’ Recent Activities & News : WIDU Kenya Behind the Scenes 

  • WIDU Expansion in Europe: Platform extended to 29 European countries (all EU states plus Switzerland & Norway), opening wider opportunities for diaspora engagement and introducing improved funding and coaching systems.
  • ProSEET Call Progress: Implementation in Turkana West continues with 134 entrepreneurs onboarded (43% refugees, 57% hosts, 57% women-led). Success story: Mama Samaki business in Kakuma modernized operations with solar and cold storage.
  • State Department Diaspora Affairs Visit: German Embassy & GIZ delegation met with PS Hon. Roseline Njogu to strengthen cooperation on diaspora engagement and labour migration.
  • Delegation Visit – Uasin Gishu & Nandi: WIDU, GIZ, and SDDA team visited supported enterprises, including Edka Concepts (distributed 12,500 seedlings to 300 farmers), Medglobe Clinic, Emerald Valley Medical Center, Kipkenda Poultry Farm, and Samoo Hills Tea.
  • Diaspora Voices: Kenyan diaspora representatives from Germany (Angela Hainja & Caro Mawangi) engaged with entrepreneurs and coaches.  
  • AU-AIR Experts’ Workshop: WIDU participated at the Africa Institute for Remittances workshop review of the draft document β€œReference document on strategies for leveraging remittances and diaspora engagement” alongside government representatives from Benin, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • Annual KWIG Cultural Event in Germany: WIDU participated in the Kenyan Women in Germany event, connecting with diaspora donors, sharing updates on platform improvements, and celebrating Kenyan culture abroad.
