Lilian Kiganga’s love for baking began in her home kitchen, where she crafted cakes with passion and precision. What started as a small venture has now grown into Maliki Bakers, a flourishing bakery that not only serves delicious treats but also empowers aspiring bakers through training and job opportunities.

Passion- Turned Profession
Baking has always been more than a skill for Lilian—it’s a lifelong passion. As a full-time baker, she found joy in experimenting flavours, perfecting recipes, and bringing people together through food. Over time, demand for her cakes grew, and so did her vision. She not only wanted to expand beyond just selling cakes but also wanted to equip others with baking skills and create job opportunities for those in need.
Growth Through Opportunity

Through WIDU, Lilian was able to set up a bakery shop, expand to include an in-dining area, and create employment. She now has two permanent employees, two casual workers, and accommodates more trainees, providing hands-on experience for jobless and vulnerable individuals, including girls, boys, and mothers eager to learn.
The support also allowed her to invest in a high-quality oven and essential baking equipment, improving both efficiency and the presentation of her products. “Our products and brand have improved. The cakes are more presentable and of high standards because of the oven and items the project has bought for us and a bigger space than before. Our bakery now is presentable and well seen because of the burner of Maliki Bakers,” she shares.
More Than Just a Bakery
Beyond serving mouthwatering cakes and pastries, Maliki Bakers has become a centre for training and empowerment. Lilian offers baking masterclasses, equipping participants with skills to start their own businesses or find employment in the food industry. Her initiative is creating a ripple effect—spreading financial independence and fostering inclusion in the community.
